EMC Engineer, Olathe Kansas
SUMMARY: Perform duties required to complete Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) Certifications associated with aviation programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and write test plans that will result in test data that will be used to show EMC (High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) and Lightning) compliance with TSO (Technical Standard Order) and in particular both TC (Type Certificate) and STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) requirements of complex avionics systems
- Coordinate with avionics installation teams to ensure that avionics installations meet EMC requirements and that the EMC testing will be applicable to the particulars of the installation
- Define, document and direct development of test setups that will be used during EMC testing including harnesses, test loads, and definitions of new interfaces
- Coordinate with EMC test facilities to ensure that testing is scheduled and planned appropriately to meet required objectives
- Coordinate testing including acquisition of all equipment and transferring the required equipment to and from the test facility
- Lead EMC testing at test facilities including recommending personnel staffing, documentation of results and recommending the disposition of any anomalies
- Develop and write test reports that correctly and completely captures the test results and will include the information required to ensure the report can be used to show compliance with EMC requirements
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support Avionics Development teams efforts to design to meet EMC requirements
- Perform other job related duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSEE, BSCE) from four-year college or university or equivalent education/experience
- Excellent academics (composite GPA greater than or equal to 3.0)
- Knowledge and/or experience with DO 160 Sections 20 (Radio Frequency Susceptibility (Radiated and Conducted), Sections 22 (Lightning Induced Transient Susceptibility), and Sections 22 (Lightning Direct Affects) is desired
- Designated Engineering Representative (DER) status including HIRF and Lightning categories is desired
- Knowledge and/or experience of the following is desired: EASA HIRF and lightning requirements, SAE ARP5412, 5413 and 5583
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent academics (composite GPA Greater than or equal to 3.5)
- Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
