Spread Spectrum Oscillator Reduces Electromagnetic Emissions

03/04/09 01:24 PM

The Sit9003 spread spectrum oscillator from SiTime is touted as consuming one-third the power of comparable quartz-based solutions. The device reduces electromagnetic emissions by up to 12 dB. The 2.5-mm x 2-mm unit can be programmed for frequencies between 1 and 110 MHz.  Other product features included available voltages of 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 2.8 V, or 3.3 V—as well as down-spread and center-spread configurability. An embedded MEMS resonator functions as the clock reference and allows designers to replace conventional two chip solutions. The SiT9003 is currently sampling and will be available in production quantities during the second quarter of 2009. See the original product announcement on the SiTime website.
