Varistors and Diodes Now Provide ESD Protection in Compact Packaging

 

Low-capacitance CeraDiodes® and multi-layer varistors (MLV) from EPCOS now provide ESD protection in a compact 0201 package. These devices with capacitances of 22 pF are characterized by a low clamping voltage and are well suited to the protection of LED background lighting. Types with capacitances up to 10 pF are also available for USB and Ethernet systems. Because of the need to minimize parasitic capacitances, especially in RF technology, EPCOS is currently developing a special antenna varistor with a capacitance of less than 1 pF.
