New Ferrite Material Features Low Power Loss

06/24/09 03:30 PM

N95 is a new power ferrite material from EPCOS. This material features an exceptionally low power loss. In contrast to existing materials, N95 offers a constant minimum of 310 kW/m3 over a broad temperature range of between 60 and 100 degrees C. Depending on the temperature, this figure is 15 to 54 percent lower than the losses of conventional ferrite materials. Another advantage is its high flux density of 525 mT at 25 degrees C and 410 mT at 100 degrees C. N95 is well suited for use in power converters in switch-mode power supplies, allowing optimized efficiency even at partial load. This high degree of temperature independence is particularly advantageous under alternating load factors and particularly in the partial load range of power supplies, where it reduces the thermal loss and thus minimizes unnecessary power consumption. N95 is predominantly available in core types E, ER, and ETD. Find more product information at the EPCOS website.
