Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky said Russia will continue to work with the Bulava submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile, despite its recent unsuccessful tests. Among the missiles’ claimed abilities are a warhead fully shielded against both physical and electromagnetic pulse damage, evasive maneuvering, and mid-course countermeasures and decoys.
Analysts believe Russia’s testing of the missile may have been the cause of bizarre lightening in the Norwegion sky on Dec. 9. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that the first two stages of the rocket worked properly, but a technical failure in the third stage resulted in the launch failure.
